Trip to Chinatown and once again Orchard Road.

One thing I learned after my second day in Singapore is: if you don’t know your way around here and plan to get around by bus, don’t do it unless you sit and count the stops until your destination. The buses here don’t announce the next stops, and since I’m still clueless about the roads around here, it’s pretty much get off by intuition, which might not always go so well.

My plan for today was to eat in the food court next to the hotel before I head out to the center to shop and “explore” the city.  I went out around 11 am and it was so hot that it felt like I was walking around in a sauna.  Since the food court’s sitting places are outside, there’s no way a person like me that can’t handle hotness well can eat there. I then decided to go to a more central place in order to eat breakfast. After walking for a while, I found a bus station and apparently there was a bus that went to Chinatown. I though there would be a lot food to eat there, so why not check it out. Of course I did not know that the buses here did not announce the next station. So while the bus was driving around I had no idea where I was. I simply thought that when I’m in Chinatown I’ll probably see a lot of lanterns and such, so I can get off when I see spot those stuffs. My stomach however, did not allow me to wait until I could confirm where I was. I was soooo hungry I felt like dying so I jumped off the bus when I saw Mc Donald’s.  I did not end up having my breakfast there since I was apparently next to a center.  Every center here has a food court in the basement, so there’s no problem finding a place to eat. Although took a while for me to realize it, but I was seemingly in Chinatown. It was pure luck! lol, who knows where I would end up being if I kept waiting for chinese stuff to appear ? (I don’t even know if they would appear or not :S).

So what do you do after you filled up your stomach? Explore Chinatown? Well, although that was my plan,I pretty much gave up after 10 min or so. The warmth totally killed me, and it didn’t help that everywhere I walked all I could smell was fried and oily food. I have to say I don’t have much appetite during the days I’m here, so it just made me feel like throwing up. In the end I, I ended up at Orchard Road. Like yesterday I could not buy anything today either.

I don’t know if it’s because of my nephew’s influence that I suddenly got the thought of taking the bus home instead of the MRT which I’m more comfortable with. (He really dislike the MRT and says that the bus is much better). Anyway, I ended up taking a bus that would take me to Lavender, the place where I stay. Once again I had problems with the bus stops and ended up getting out on a random place. I was afraid the bus would drive to far, and that I might end up in Geylang. Since it was night I didn’t want to take a chance of sitting on it longer. I ended up 1 station away from my planned bus stop, it was 300 extra metres to walk home. Not the longest road ever, but I think I’ll stay away from the buses for awhile for now….

First day in Singapore

After a 15 hours long flight tour, I finally reached the destination where I’ll be staying for the next couple of months – Singapore.  The flight was not the best I had, but it wasn’t the worst either. The first flight from Oslo to Bangkok went fairly well until the last hours. There was some turbulence which made be feel nauseous. I thought I would feel better after we landed, but it did not help when the first thing I saw when walking into the toilet was a women throwing up. She even threw up on the floor! It made me feel like throwing up myself, but in the end I still managed not to. Except for some nauseous feeling the rest of the flight went well.

After landing at Changi Airport, going through the immigration check, getting the baggage what’s left to do is to find your way to the hotel. You can always take a taxi from the airport to the hotel, the fare I heard is around 20 – 40 $ (singapore) which is about 200 norwegian krones. It’s not that expensive if you compare it to the price you pay in Norway. Due to the extremly hot weather, I almost ended up doing it because I simply just coudn’t take it anymore. However, I managed to find a Shuttle Bus that apparently will drive you to any hotel for 9$. It was only me and another lady at that bus, so basically it was pretty much like a taxi.

After resting  at the hotel, I decided to “explore” the city. I can’t say it’s easy to find the way around here (at least not where I’m staying). I had no idea where I was, and every street just looked like each other. After walking around for 30 min, I managed to find the MRT station I looked for and managed to get to Orchard road where I ended up staying for the rest of the day. Except hanging around beauty stores and buying beauty products, I simply had no mood to shop due to the hot weather. You get sweaty, everything feels sticky, you feel ugly so everything you try on seems bad.

Since I did not manage to sleep much during the flight, I was totally exhausted when returning to the hotel. Though I still did not sleep until the clock was about 1 a.m. Anyway what can I say about Singapore so far? It hot, way too hot here =_=

My first attempt on….

Mousse :D. It was supposed to be a yoghurt – mango mousse. Well, I kinda managed to overwhip the top part the first time, so I had to redo it, but I decided to use strawberry instead. I’m glad I used strawberry, because the canned mango didn’t taste good. I’m going to make another mango mousse when it’s mango season. I’m sure it’ll taste much better than the canned one =.=.

So how did it turn out? I liked the yoghurt base, but was a little disappointed with the strawberry top. It was too creamy for my taste. It’s not really suprising considering the fact that I had to use whipped cream in it, but I didn’t think so much about it when chose the recipe. Next time I’ll just have to make sure to find a recipe that’s less creamy 😛 Didn’t turn out that bad,at least it’s edible and the bottom was good 😀

Cooking

Cooking is one of my weak points. Although I’m still not very good at it, I’m better than when I first came to Trondheim. Well, I basically had to learn how to cook, otherwise I woudn’t have anything to eat. Since most of the time I cook for myself, I don’t like trying out difficult recipes or trying out things that requires a lot of ingredients and time. I disliked cooking before and just liked to eat. I still like to eat instead of cooking right now, but unlike before, I think cooking can be fun, especially if you do it with family or friends.

This is what I made today, I sort of followed was inspired with this recipe.

I actually made something similar last week, the main thing about the recipe is just the sauce, but it’s almost like teriyaki sauce, or maybe it is teriyaki :S (was to hungry to take a picture, I just ate everything up :P). Anyway, today I made it with with chicken clubs instead.

Ebay …

Or Evil Bay as Bao calls it, and I must say I agree. It’s a pretty scary site. Once I’m there, it’s difficult to get out. I always end up spending hours there searching for a lot of stuff that I…..umh, don’t need. But it’s kind of fun though 😄

Anyway, Bao do you remember the bun sponge thing you showed me? I ordered it when you gave me the site. I still haven’t received it, and it’s been over a month!! I’m reconsidering buying it again from someone else because I really want to try it TT_TT aah what to do?

Brrr …It’s cold!

It’s getting colder and colder every day. Yesterday snow even fell. The snow was really light, like powder, and it sparkled as it was reflecting light from the surroundings. It was really pretty. Too bad it did not sparkle today. I brought my camera with me to take some pictures after going to the mass. I died after taking 4 shots or something. It was way too cold. I could not hold the camera anymore so I just headed home.

I apologize for not posting for a while. I’ve been really busy with school. I have like 7 assignments to hand in every week. In addition I also have to pass different tests in order to qualify for the exam. So all I do nowadays is basically to attend lectures, eat, study, eat, study, eat some more, sleep, wake up, eat and attend new lectures … you get the picture.

For the time being, here’s two of the shots I managed to take today. Hopefully I’ll be able to take more when it’s warmer 😀

Misunderstanding …

Another long post, sorry ….

A new semester means a looong line of people in front of the cashier at the bookstore. After 6 hours with lectures, I went to the bookshop in hope of buying my books for the new courses. I want them early, as we already have assignment that we have to hand in by the end of the week TT_TT. I walked around, listening to music while searching for the titles. It was crowded, and I just wanted to get my books, line up at the long line and pay for them. Suddenly some guy pulled my backpack. Turns out, he’s in my class, and wanted to know if I had a list over the books we needed. I told him I just had the list for one of the subject. As for the others I somehow know how they look, so I just planned to look for them. In the end, I doublechecked with my phone just to be on the safe side. This guy, I’ll call him A just to make it short later on, decided to tag along with me since he did not know what kind of books we needed.

After collecting all the books, we lined up at the freaking long line. It took almost 30 minutes until I reached the cashier. None of us said something. I normally don’t talk with people I barely know without a reason, but it was so awkward just standing there, especially knowing that this guy is in my class. So I forced myself to ask some questions in order to make it less awkward. It was just normal questions like: what do you think of the new semester? Did you apply for a studass job this semester? Do you have plan on exchanging later?etc, you know, normal school related questions. After paying for my books, I did know how to get myself out of the current situation. I though it would be rude to just leave without saying anything. I was kind of stupid, but I ended up asking: where are you going now? My purpose of asking this question was, I know he won’t be going the same way as I do, so I can just say after his answer, Oh I’m going home byebye. That’s what I ended up doing, and I thought it was normal. Didn’t think much of it either.

Well, today, after my last lecture, we had to choose whether we wanted to start 8.15 or 8.45 on friday. I wanted to start 8.15 and was standing around trying to convince some people I know to choose the same. After a while A shows up. I just said hi and we were all discussing the time thing. Anyway, I planned to print out my assignments for this week and decided to go, I already voted so I did not want to stand there any longer. I took my leave, and A went after me. I just though he decided to go too. Then, he said something, I did not hear it entirely because it was very noisy outside of the lecture room. But first he asked if I was a shy person. I thought he was talking about personality wise, like I don’t talk much to people and am pretty much unsocial. Though I am completely different with people I know well. So I answered, kinda or something. Afterwards, I heard A say something about yesterday, you asked ….*did not hear* going ….Then I heard, I thought you wanted to hang together? I was like, wth is this guy talking about??? Really, I thought he was talking about the exchang thing so I just said, no it was awkward so I was just trying to make a conversation. Then he said I thought you wanted to hang out together, but we can hang out together. You know, this was too much for my brain to handle. I mean, I coudn’t get  the connection between asking if you plan on exchanging and hang out together? By the time I realized that he might be talking about the last thing I asked him, I reached my destination and just said I needed to go. Thank god he did not follow. However, I think he thought I was interested in him or something? lol, I don’t even know this guy, except for the fact that I’ve seen him in my class before. Either way I just can’t understand how on earth he reached a conclusion that I wanted to hang out with him? my gawd ….

Man, I should just have kept my mouth shut the entire time yesterday, and left afterwards. Bao, you’re  my oracle, you gave me some good sentences regarding the shampoo thing (although I did not have the chance to use them). Give me some sentences to say this time too 😄
